Fresh off their biggest win of the season to date, the Green Knights will ride their three-game winning streak down the Garden State Parkway to take on the Crusaders of Bergen Catholic on Saturday, October 16. Bergen Catholic comes into the game ranked #1 in the state of New Jersey and #6 in the country. The Crusaders have won three of the last five meetings in what may be the biggest rivalry in New Jersey.
This past Saturday, October 9, the Green Knights had a stellar performance as they defeated St. Peter's Prep, 21-14. SJR improved to 4-2 on the back of its powerful running game. Yasin Willis '23 led the team with 33 carries and 153 yards.
Now it's on to Bergen Catholic.
"The BC rivalry has always been one of the biggest games of the year," said captain Jack Smiechowski '22. "There is nothing better to see generations of football players so passionate about a game."
This game has been played for fifty years and the buzz on game-day only gets stronger every year. The SJR-BC game could have a huge impact on potential top seeding in the Non-Public A playoff bracket, as there are only three weeks left in the regular season.
This heavyweight matchup pits two of the state's best defenses against each other. Over their last five outings, the Green Knights have given up an average of 8.4 points per game. Their counterparts have allowed an average of just 5 points over the same span.
Kickoff is Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Jack McGovern Field in Oradell. The game will also be streamed (FREE) on NJ.com.
