This Saturday, the NJSIAA football Non-Public A quarterfinals will feature two of the state's top teams as the 6-3 Green Knights take on Don Bosco Prep (6-4). The game will mark a rematch from just three weeks ago when SJR defeated the Ironmen, in Montvale, 21-14.
"We are looking forward to a good game between two great programs," said head coach Dan Marangi. "Our team has improved each week and continues to believe in each other. It's tremendous to see and a credit to the young men on this team."
The Green Knights are coming into this matchup having won five of their last six games and three of the last five against Don Bosco. The run of stellar play has been led by SJR's dominating defense which has forced nine turnovers over its last two games, including four in the previous meeting with the Ironmen. The offense has hit its stride with the rushing attack averaging just under 200 yards per game. Sophomore Yasin Willis leads the way with 945 yards and nine touchdowns.
This weekend the Green Knights will begin their quest to win the school's 20th state championship, the most in New Jersey history, and first since 2018. Kickoff is 1:00p.m. on Saturday at Dinallo Stadium for the right to play the winner of St. Augustine vs. Delbarton.
Tickets are $5 each, general admission. The game will also be live streamed on NJ.com.
