The #2-ranked Green Knights wrestling team opened its season with a 45-24 victory over Paramus High School. With the victory, the team moves to 1-0 on the season. Paramus falls to 0-1.
The match opened at 182 and SJR struck quickly, taking the first four bouts. Senior
Jack Farinaro pinned in 1:23 to get things rolling. Junior
AJ Fricchione earned a major decision at 195 before senior
Michael Toranzo (P 3:52) and sophomore
James Mullen (P 1:08) won their matches at 220 and 285, respectively.
The match moved to the lighter weights and SJR once again found victory with sophomore
Joe Manno (P 1:52) winning at 120 and classmate
Mateo Sgambellone holding serve at 132 (MD 10-1).
Junior
Alex Almeyda earned a technical fall (23-8, 4:10) at 138 and senior
Michael Cetta followed suit at 145 (TF 17-1, 2:20). To round out the SJR victories,
Frank DiBella won a decision at 152 (D 5-1).
Senior
Roberto Padilla and sophomore
Michael Dellagatta also took to the mat for SJR, falling by decision in both matches.
The Green Knights next match is on the road against #12 Paramus Catholic on Thursday, March 18 at 6:00 p.m.
