On Saturday, April 30, Saint Joseph Regional will formally dedicate the Plescia Family Cross on the hill as part of a pre-game ceremony before the Green Knights host Bergen Catholic in baseball.
The ceremony will take place at 1:45 p.m. with first pitch slated for 2:00 p.m. The Green Knights will wear commemorative hats for the game and Nightingale Catering will be on site with concessions.
Never one for fanfare, Plescia quietly installed the cross over the course of one weekend in 2013, covering the material and installations costs.
"People often talk about things that should be done, but Mark really makes things happen. After a very brief conversation at a baseball game in April, SJR's spectacular cross was delivered in August and completely transformed our campus," said then-Principal Barry Donnelly '71.
"The cross shows our pride as a Catholic school and is a great addition to our athletic facilities," Joe Sabbers '14 said at the time.
Fast-forward nearly ten years and the Green Knights welcome back Mark Plescia to dedicate a plaque to rest at the base of the cross, highlighting the support from the entire family over four decades of involvement at the school.
