To kick-off the 2023 season the Green Knights traveled down to North Carolina to face the Christ School in Arden, and SJR came out firing with a dominating 49-10 win.

Senior quarterback Patrick Grusser made his Green Knights' debut completing 14 of 18 passes for 237 yards and 2 touchdowns while rushing for 68 yards. Senior James Montesano and junior Jovon Williams were Grusser's favorite targets. Montesano had 74 yards and a touchdown on three receptions while Williams had 109 yards along with a touchdown.

The rushing game was dominating for the Green Knights. SJR rushed for a total of 337 yards and 4 touchdowns. Senior Terrance Sumter contributed the most with 124 yards and 2 touchdowns. Senior Yasin Willis added 81 yards with a touchdown and junior John Forster had 20 yards on 6 carries as well as a touchdown.

The defense came ready to play and they were lights out.  The "D"  allowed just 10 points, which is the lowest amount of points allowed since the 2021 season.

With the record of 1-0 the Green Knights will now travel to Ohio to play Michigan school Cass Tech on September 2nd at a neutral site.
