Under the bright lights of Boardwalk Hall, SJR turned the biggest stage in New Jersey into their own showcase, with three Green Knights capturing individual state titles, JoJo Burke, Ryan Burton and Anthony Harris, along with 6 other placers.
At 106 pounds JoJo Burke, a freshman, made his presence known in his first appearance in Atlantic City, winning a state title.
In the preliminary round Burke won by pin, in pre-quarterfinals he won by tech fall before he grabbed 2 major decisions in the quarterfinals and the semi finals round.
In the gold medal bout, Burke and Killian Caluccio went toe-to-toe for 6 minutes. In the first period, Burke scored a take down with 3 seconds to go in the period making the score 3-0. In the 2nd period there was little action, only an escape by Caluccio which made it 3-1. And in the final period, Burke started things quick with an escape to make it 4-1 before he would be called for stalling twice which awarded Caluccio 2 points but that was not enough as Burke would win 4-3.
At 175 pounds Ryan Burton defended his 175 pound state title from 2024, tearing through anyone who came in his way. From his first match in the preliminary round to the semifinals match, Burton's matches did not go past the first round, he won by tech fall within 2 minutes of the match starting.
In the finals, it was much of the same as Burton defeated former 165 pound state runner-up Jordan Chapman by a 20-6 major decision. Burton found his success by getting back points which powered the Virginia Tech commit to a state title.
Two years ago, Anthony Harris lost to SJR's Michael Dellagatta in the state finals at 190 pounds. Since then Harris transferred to SJR from St. Peter's Prep, and two years later earned the top spot on the podium he was seeking. This time at 215 pounds and wearing the Green and Gold.
In the preliminary, pre-quarterfinals, and quarter finals round Harris was dominant, winning those matches by pin all within 1 minute. In the semi finals the Senior won by an 11-5 decision before beating Don Bosco's Dante DeLuca in the finals by tech fall.
Other state medalists for the Green Knights were 2nd placers Charlie Esposito, Jonathan McGinty, and Christian Alvarez. Seniors Vinny Paino placed 3rd, Adrian DeJesus placed 5th and Kaleb Jackson placed 6th
Overall this success gave the Green Knights a total of 224 points, the most of the tournament.
