The Green Knights, ranked No. 2 in the NJ.com poll, continued their strong run on Thursday with an impressive win over sixth-ranked St. Augustine Prep, picking up their seventh consecutive victory running their record to 8-1-1 on the season.
St. Joe's set the tone early as Joey Ciardullo opened the scoring in the first period on a great 3 way connection from Milan Kutsevic and Mateos Garipian. Connor White then added a key second-period power play goal assisted by Ciardullo and Garipian to give the Green Knights a 2-1 lead midway through the 2nd. After St. Augustine tied it up Junior Shane Pappacioli potted the game-winner mid-way through the 3rd period, finishing a play set up by Jason Juneau and Nikita Bogatryev.
That was all the offense SJR needed as Gabe Florio delivered another steady performance, turning aside 22 of 24 shots to help secure the win. Florio made an incredible glove save with 4 minutes left to seal the victory. The Green Knights climbed into sole possession 2nd place in the Gordon Conference standings. Arhip Ahkmedov, Danta Mangarelli and Nicky Mas played a solid game defensively for the Green Knights.
The Green Knights are back in action Friday night at 7:00 p.m. when they host crosstown rival Don Bosco Prep at Sport-O-Rama.
