Green Knights Locked In for Showdown with Bergen Catholic

11/21/2024 7:48:00 AM

Following a win over St. Peter's Prep in the quarterfinals of the state playoffs the Green Knights are now ready to face #1 Bergen Catholic in the semifinals for a chance to play at MetLife Stadium next week.

In last week's win against St. Peter's Prep the offense racked up a total of 309 yards with 113 coming from the air and 215 yards coming from the rushing game. In that game Nate Bailey had a total of 119 yards and 1 touchdown with Mekhi Rossignol scoring the second touchdown and having 2 receptions for 45 yards.

While the defense had one of their best games of the season, allowing 7 points and 153 total yards. The team combined for 36 total tackles with Vincent Ferrera, AJ Revella, and Jordan Suchoki all leading the way with 6 tackles each. Travon Chardonet added an interception as well.

For the Crusaders, the team is coming off a 41-10 win over Seton Hall Prep. Bergen Catholic's offense spread the ball well through both the air and on the ground, they had 215 passing yards and 3 touchdowns with 1 interception, while combining for 220 yards and 3 touchdowns on the ground. On defense, the Crusaders defense combined for 40 tackles and 1 interception.

The game is a rematch from earlier this season at Dinallo Stadium where BC defeated SJR 28-17. This was a game that was tight through all 4 quarters. Coach Hoffmann and the team will look to bounce back from that loss this week.

"Back against the wall, no place we would rather be. We've gotta go get it and figure it out" said Coach Hoffmann on the semi-finals match up.

The history between the two Bergen County powers goes deeper than just 1 regular season game a year.  The two rivals have met on multiple occasions in the playoffs as well, most recently in 2018. The 2018 match up took place at Metlife Stadium where the Green Knights topped the Crusaders 13-0 to become state champions. Now nearly 6 years to the day they faced off, the SJR and BC will be competing for a chance to play at Metlife Stadium.

The highly anticipated match up is set for 1 PM at Bergen Catholic on Saturday, November 23rd, with the chance to play either Don Bosco or St. Augustine in the finals.
