Green Knights Dominate on Senior Day

9/17/2025 7:54:00 AM

There's not many more memorable days in high school sports than Senior Day. On Monday, SJR soccer celebrated its annual senior day by honoring the team's 8 seniors prior to kickoff against Paramus Catholic.

The Green Knights kicked off and came out with high intensity from the start. Over halfway into the first half, SJR had put plenty of shots on goal, but finally found the breakthrough with 15 minutes left in the half as senior captain Daniel Butler scored the first goal of the evening. The teams went into the half, with the hosts leading 1-0.

The second half kicked off and the Green Knights carried the momentum over and completely dominated the Paladins. Senior Devon Cambian doubled Joes' lead early in the second half with his first career varsity goal. Cambian then assisted Angelo Paino who gave SJR a comfortable 3-0 lead. The scoring didn't stop there however, as Daniel Butler added 2 more to his tally, and sealed his first hat trick as a Green Knight. Junior goalkeeper John Vasquez held strong in net, recording the first shutout of the season.

SJR defeated Paramus Catholic 5-0 and capped off a special night with post game celebrations with friends and family. The Green Knights now turn their attention to Thursday night, where they will travel to Wayne to take on Depaul Catholic in a prime time showdown under the lights.
