After two tightly contested losses during the Green Knights Holiday Classic, St. Joe's will be looking to bounce back as it heads into the new year.
On Wednesday, SJR came up short against Dwight Englewood, 65-57. The Green Knights led the game after the end of the first quarter, but fell behind in the second and were not able to mount a significant comeback, despite cutting the Bulldogs lead to three midway through the final quarter. Junior Donovan McKoy led the team with 19 points while guard Christopher Williams had 16 points.
After losing to Dwight Englewood the Green Knights tried to quickly bounce back on Thursday against a solid Ridgewood team. Williams led St. Joe's with 14 points, as the Green Knights began the fourth quarter with the lead, but the final chapter was not kind to SJR. The Green Knights offense could not get going as the team eventually fell to Ridgewood, 47-39.
The Green Knights were short handed for both of the tournament games, missing starter Mason Piorkowski, while taking the court with just seven players. Freshman Jahmir Joseph was forced into a starting role and played extremely well on both ends of the floor against Ridgewood chipping in with 13 points while playing solid defense.
St. Joe's will get right back to work this weekend as they try and snap their three-game skid. The Green Knights will play Glen Rock on Sunday, January 2.
