The Green Knights JV team took home a hard-fought 3-2 victory over SAR Academy (NY) to close out the hockey season.
Sophomore
Luke Heimberg opened the scoring in the first period with a snipe on the power play from a sharp angle. The score remained 1-0 until early in the second stanza when the Sting tied it up on a power play tally of its own.
It was Heimberg again who gave the Green Knights the lead back, tipping a shot past the goaltender midway through the period. Freshman
Kyle Frey picked up his second assist of the game; sophomore
Conor Keenan also added a helper.
The penalties stacked up and the ice tiled toward freshman goaltender
Liam Moloney who was spectacular in the victory, making 23 saves.
Freshman
Andrew Chiarello scored a beautiful shorthanded marker with five minutes to play to extend the lead, but the Sting answered quickly.
That set the stage for a frantic final minute in which SJR, shorthanded once again, held SAR at bay to claim the win.
The Green Knights finished the season 7-7-1 after an 0-5-1 start.
