The SJR baseball team is gearing up for the start of the 2026 season.
Despite the frigid temperatures, the team has been steadily preparing for the beginning of the regular season. The boys will get away from the freezing cold for a few days as they head to Florida for a 6 pre-season scrimmages. Senior catcher and first baseman Ryan McCabe offered his thoughts on the team's trip,
"We are really excited to head down to Florida. It's always nice to be able to get into the nice weather and play some games before it really counts. It's a great way to get closer with the guys and get on track to have a big season."
Led by Head Coach Mark Cieslak, SJR is coming off a solid 17-10 record in 2025. The team is powered by senior Brady Shust who led the team in home runs last season. Speaking on the work ethic of the team in 2026, Shust said,
"We are a blue collared group that gives it our all 100% day in and day out to get SJR Baseball back to the Triple Crown."
Shust is 1 of 10 seniors that will be counted on for key leadership in 2026. Ryan McCabe, Lorenzo Zeccardi, Griffin Buntzen, Sean Radwan, Lorcan Walsh, Declan Stacey, James Griglio, Jorge Rivero, and Paul Schuckalo will look to use their veteran experience to steer the team towards another county title this season.
When the team returns to New Jersey, the Green Knights season opener will take place at the newly renovated Rockland Boulders stadium against Albertus Magnus on March 28. The home opener will come against division foe DePaul Catholic on April 6. The two teams always circled on the SJR calendar, Don Bosco Prep and Bergen Catholic, serve as the two most anticipated match ups in 2026. Joe's and Bosco will clash in Ramsey on April 20 before battling once again on April 22 in Montvale. The Green Knights will host the Crusaders on May 11 before traveling to Oradell on May 13.
A thrilling 2026 season is in store for the SJR Baseball team.
