The SJR Green Knights took the field for their home opener in 2026 against the Bergen Tech Knights on Monday afternoon.
Sean Radwan got the start for the 1-0 Green Knights, fresh off an 11-1 win against Albertus Magnus (NY) at Clover Stadium. Radwan started the game hot with 2 strikeouts in the first. In the second inning, Radwan got a huge strikeout with the bases loaded to end the inning. In the third inning, Radwan sent the last two batters down to leave runners stranded on second and third base. The senior pitcher finished his day with just 1 hit allowed on 70 pitches and an impressive 7 strikeouts. Most importantly, Radwan did not let up a single run in his first start of the year.
Offensively, the Green Knights showed no signs of cooling down from the opening day onslaught. Brady Shust got SJR on the board in the first inning with a ground rule double RBI. In the second inning, junior Justin Olivo demolished a home run over the wall in left field to double the home team's advantage. Aiden Reilly added on to the scoring with a sacrifice fly later in that inning.
In the fourth inning, Myles Benitez added an RBI single to make it 4-0 SJR. Then in the fifth inning, the Green Knights' bats truly came to life with hits from Ryan McCabe, Justin Olivo, Myles Benitez, Kevin Foley, Danny Higgins. Senior Lorenzo Zeccardi notched 2 RBI's of his own in the fifth to cap off a 7-run inning. Zeccardi also came into the game in relief of Radwan on the mound, taking over in the fourth inning. The senior allowed justĀ 1 hit while striking out 3 to preserve the shutout victory.
SJR moves to 2-0 on the year with both wins coming by double digits. A hot start has Mark Cieslak's team feeling very confident as the calendar turns to April. Next up for the Green Knights is a match up with the school right down the road in Montvale, the Pascack Hills Broncos on Wednesday.
