Green Knights Ready for State Tournament Showdown vs. Seton Hall Prep

5/27/2026 2:16:00 PM

The SJR Green Knights baseball team is gearing up for a state quarterfinal match up against fourth-seeded Seton Hall Prep.

The fifth-seeded Green Knights took care of business at home against Hudson Catholic on Tuesday. Seniors Lorenzo Zeccardi and Paul Schuckalo each put up a pair of RBI's to lead SJR to a comfortable win. Daniel Alvarez, Griffin Buntzen, and John Polowitz all combined for 10 strikeouts in the 10-0 shutout victory.

Looking ahead to Thursday's match up, SJR will travel to West Orange to take on #4 Pirates who are 22-5 on the year and are 10-2 so far in the month of May. Pitching and defense has been their strong suit as they have allowed four or less runs in all of their last eight games. SJR has lost just one game in May, while also putting up big numbers on the scoreboard. Coach Mark Cieslak's team has put up double digit runs in three straight games, outscoring opponents 32-2 in that stretch.

The Green Knights come into the game with revenge on their mind as Seton Hall Prep ended their season last year in a decisive 12-2 victory in the quarterfinals. First pitch is set for 1:15pm at Seton Hall Prep in West Orange, New Jersey.
