The SJR Baseball team is gaining serious momentum and have strung together three consecutive victories.

The first of three victories came last Friday evening, when the boys traveled to take on Wayne Valley. SJR used a big 7-run sixth inning in that game to blow the door wide open and emerge victorious on the road. Senior captains Lorenzo Zeccardi and Ryan McCabe led from the front, combining for 7 of the 10 total runs. Zeccardi went 2-3 with 4 RBIs, while McCabe went 3-4 with 3 RBIs of his own. Zeccardi was also tasked with closing the game on the mound, after the starter Daniel Alvarez threw four scoreless, no-hit innings. SJR proved to be the better team, earning a comfortable 10-0 win.

The Green Knights returned home to take to the diamond the next day and wasted no time jumping all over Archbishop Stepinac (NY). An 8-run second inning set the tone for what was another dominant showing from SJR. Zeccardi showed no signs of slowing down as he put up 4 RBIs once again, going 2-2 from the plate. Myles Benitez provided 2 RBIs as well as the Green Knights' bats had a strong weekend. John Polowitz was a force on the mound, striking out 10 batters in just four innings, while only allowing one hit. For the second straight day, SJR came up victorious 10-0.

SJR had a day off on Sunday before returning to conference play against Paramus Catholic on Monday afternoon. SJR traveled to the home of the Paladins and knew they would be in for a gritty contest. Matthew Tomassi took the mound for the Green Knights and did his part, striking out six batters through five innings. In the batters box, it was Aiden Reilly and Brady Shust who led the scoring for SJR, with each notching two RBIs. Lorenzo Zeccardi capped off his great 3-game stretch by closing out the game and sealing a 5-2 victory for the Green Knights.

Head Coach Mark Cieslak's team will look to continue the momentum this week with a trip to Union City on Tuesday, before a pivotal rematch with Paramus Catholic in Montvale on Wednesday.
