The Green Knights football team dominated on all sides of the ball, in Wayne on Friday night, ultimately coming out with a convincing with 42-7 road win at DePaul.
Coming out of the gates the SJR offense was ready. Freshman quarterback William Mitchell led the team down the field with two runs down to the Spartans 1-yard line. SJR put 7 on the board with sophomore running back Blake Domonique scoring his first varsity touchdown.
Shortly after the score, junior co-captain linebacker Tahj Gray picked off the Spartans QB taking the pick 25-yards to the end zone. This was the 5-star recruit's first time reaching the end zone, extending SJR's lead to 14-0. Following the pick-six, DePaul quarterback Frank Morano threw a 60-yard touchdown pass to running back Sean Nevers cutting the SJR lead to 14-7.
Starting the second quarter, the DePaul offense was facing a tough 4th down and 20. Senior co-captain and Pitt commit Cam Aime recorded a huge sack and the Green Knights took over on downs.
The Green Knights put together another strong drive before the half. On 4th down with under three minutes to go in the half, quarterback William Mitchell completed a big pass to junior Vin Russo to get a fresh set of downs. Later on the drive, on 4th and 1 from the 6-yard line, junior running back Andrew Wilson Jr. ran it in for SJR to put another 6 points on the board. Going into halftime, SJR held a commanding 21-7 lead.
Starting the second half, the Spartans marched down to the SJR 20 yard line until Aime came up big again. The senior forced a fumble, which was recovered by junior Teddy Harris. This was the second forced turnover by SJR.
SJR had a huge drive following the fumble recovery. Mitchell moved the chains with a big run down to the 8-yard line. Now at the 5-yard line, Mitchell threw a touchdown pass to junior Vin Russo for six. After the extra point, SJR extended its lead to 21 points at 28-7.
In the 4th, the Green Knights got the ball back and did not slow down. Mitchell connected on a 60-yard touchdown pass to senior co-captain and star wide receiver Stalin Knowlden to put SJR up 35-7.
Desperate for a score, DePaul's Frank Morano threw a long ball destined for the end zone, but junior Sean Guy intercepted the ball and ran it all the way back for a pick-six. This was the second pick-six of the game for the Green Knights.
With the win, SJR is now back to .500 on the season showing no signs of slowing down.
The Green Knights return to the gridiron next Friday at Don Bosco Prep. This is SJR's biggest game of the regular season so far, featuring a rematch of the 2025 state championship. The Ironmen are undefeated, ranked No. 1 in NJ, and 25th in the country. Game time is 7pm in Ramsey.
