The soccer program took on the Paladins of Paramus Catholic on September 21 at Dinallo Stadium and came away with the victory against a physical PC team who, much like the Green Knights, sought their first win of the season.
The game started with SJR maintaining most of the possession and creating opportunities. Unlucky not to score, the Green Knights were down 1-0 after a stunning goal from Paladins senior Avery Bonner.
After a rousing half time speech from head coach Christien Vlahinich '07, Adrian Cedeno '22 was able to win a penalty which Dan Brennan '23 was able to slam home into the bottom left corner. The comeback was on as the ever-resistant Green Knights were able to take the lead after a 45-yard through-ball off the foot of captain Matt Fernandez '22 found Connor Macdonald '22 who was able to slot it home.
The game ended with a score of 2-1 as SJR earned its first win of the young season. In a post-game interview, Brennan said, "We were able to battle back after going down 1-0 in the first half. The boys kept their heads and in the end we were able to score two goals and win the game." The soccer program looks to improve to 2-4 when they take on Tenafly on Tuesday, September 28.
