On Saturday, SJR took on Northern Highlands in the quarter-finals of the Bergen County Jamboree. This was a rematch form last month as Northern Highlands was the first team the Green Knights defeated to start their seven-game winning streak.
The first half of this game was tightly contested. After one quarter, SJR trailed 14-10 but bounced back in the second quarter to take a 30-29 lead at the break. Coming out of halftime, SJR was dominant on both ends of the court, scoring 21 points in the third quarter and 20 in the fourth. The Green Knights relied on a smothering defense to take the Highlanders out of their game, and it paid off in the 3rd and 4th quarters.
SJR defeated Highlands 71-55, as the Green Knights extended their winning streak to eight games. SJR's scoring came from multiple players, with seniors Jahmir Joseph and Anthony Pacciarelli leading the way once again. Each senior scored 28 points in the dominant win. Junior Tom Diometi also played a key role, knocking down two big three-pointers in the second quarter to help SJR take the lead at halftime. He finished with 11 points. Sophomore Alex Mazzella made an impact on both ends of the floor, contributing six assists and three steals.
With this win, 3rd seeded SJR will now face 2nd seeded Ridgewood in the semi-finals of the Bergen County Jamboree. These two teams met earlier in the season, with Ridgewood emerging victorious. The Green Knights hope to get their revenge on Sunday, February 16th, at FDU. Tip-off is at 1 PM.
