The SJR basketball team wrapped up an exciting and hard-fought season, finishing with a record of 20-8. Throughout the season, the team displayed resilience, skill, and determination, taking on some of the toughest opponents in New Jersey.

The season started slower than expected, as SJR dropped its first game to ranked Ridgewood, 64-48. The next few games were solid, and the Green Knights started the season at 3-3. As the season progressed, they faced several tough teams, including rivals Bergen Catholic and Don Bosco Prep. After falling to No. 1-ranked Bergen Catholic on January 16, the team found its spark and never looked back, winning 14 of its final 17 games. These victories included two wins over Don Bosco, two over Northern Highlands, and a redemption win against Ridgewood later in the season.

One of the most memorable games came against Bergen Catholic in the Bergen County Jamboree Finals. Despite being underdogs, the team put up an incredible fight. Though they ultimately fell short, losing 53-50, the game highlighted the team's determination and ability to compete at the highest level.

Seniors Jahmir Joseph and Anthony Pacciarelli led the team on both sides of the ball as the top scorers throughout the season. Pacciarelli led the team in scoring, averaging 17.4 points per game, while Joseph averaged 16.5. This season was particularly special for Joseph, as he not only surpassed 1,000 career points as a Green Knight but also broke JR Inman's record to become the school's all-time leading scorer. Joseph finished his career with 1,332 points under coaches Michael Doherty and Dan Davis.

Known for his lockdown defense, Alex Mazzella led the team in steals with 52, playing a crucial role in shutting down opponents. One of Mazzella's best performances came in the Jamboree Finals against Bergen Catholic, where he relentlessly defended his match ups and hustled for every loose ball.

One of the season's biggest surprises was junior transfer Tom Diomedi. It took him some time to find his rhythm, but once he got going, he didn't look back. His height helped SJR control the boards, and he also hit several key three-pointers throughout the second half of the season.

Like any season, this one came with its share of challenges. The team faced a significant setback when senior guard Mikey Dispirto was sidelined for the entire season due to injury. Beyond that, the Green Knights remained relatively healthy, except for a key game against rival Don Bosco when Jahmir Joseph was out with an illness. Despite missing arguably their best player, the team pulled off an upset, defeating the Ironmen 56-51 with stifling defense and just enough offensive firepower.

Going into the state playoffs, SJR earned the 5th seed in the tournament. Their first game came against Newark Academy in which the Green Knights were dominant. This is the game Jahmir Joseph became the all time leading scorer for SJR. The Green Knights defeated Newark Academy 71-43. Joseph led the team with 29 points and Anthomy Pacciarelli finished with 21 points. Their next game was at #4 Seton Hall Prep and SJR were able to comeback from down 16 entering the 4th quarter but sadly it was not enough. SJR lost to Seton Hall 52-49 which ended their season. Anthony Pacciarelli led the team in scoring with 21 points and made some insane shots down the stretch.

Coach Davis and his staff set out to push the players to improve with every game. As a result, the team showed significant growth, making noticeable strides on both ends of the court.

With the season now in the books, the team looks ahead to the future. While seniors Jahmir Joseph, Anthony Pacciarelli, Brian Davidson, Ocean Farrell, Taylor Vero, and Chuka Ubakanma will be missed, several key players are will return next season, bringing valuable experience and leadership. Upcoming seniors Tom Diomedi and Dakari Brown are expected to take on bigger roles and become difference-makers for the Green Knights. Additionally, rising juniors Alex Mazzella, Chaz Gray, and Julian Paradise are expected to step up, along with rising sophomore Tahj Gray, who will contribute on both sides of the ball.

The Green Knights basketball team delivered a thrilling season filled with growth, memorable moments, and hard-fought battles. Their competitive spirit was evident in every game. As Coach Davis and the team look ahead, they do so with confidence, knowing they have built a strong foundation for continued success.
