Back to Back!

The SJR Golf team did it again, repeating as NJSIAA Boys Golf State Champions.

On Monday, the Green Knights competed in the State Tournament of Champions at Raritan Valley Country Club in Bridgewater. SJR lived up to it's #1 statewide ranking, winning both the Non-Public and overall State Tournament of Champions titles.

The Green Knights were led by sophomore Rory Asselta, who repeated as state individual champion. Asselta shot a 3-under par 69, defeating Cherry Hill East senior Tyler Whitney in a sudden death playoff. Asselta became just the 2nd player in state history to win back to back titles as a freshman and sophomore and the 8th player all time to win two individual state titles. No player in New Jersey history has won three state individual championships, as Asselta will have that opportunity next year.

Senior co-captain Michael Asselta was a huge factor for the Green Knights, shooting a 2-under par 70 to finish tied for 3rd place. Junior CJ Antifonario shot 78 while sophomore Justin Peck shot 82 in the play four, take four format.

SJR defeated 19 other high schools from around the state with a team score of 299, two shots ahead of Mainland Regional for the TOC title and 7 shots ahead of Delbarton for the Non Public crown.
