Green Knights Golf went back to back on Monday, in what may be the team's most impressive performance of the season.
SJR took home the Non-Public North Sectional title at Francis Byrne GC, with a score of 283 (+3). That total was 15 strokes better than runner up Delbarton, as the Green Knights punched their ticket back to the NJSIAA State Tournament of Champions.
The Green Knights were led by the Asselta brothers on Monday. Sophomore Rory Asselta captured the individual crown with a 2-under par 68. The round was capped off by a back nine charge in which Asselta shot 32 to take the lead. The win marks the 9th individual tournament for the 16-year old from Ramsey. Senior Michael Asselta was runner up finishing with an even par round of 70. Sophomore Justin Peck finished tied for 3rd with a 1-over par 71, while junior John Fenton turned in his best tournament performance of the season with a 4-over par 74. The balanced showing for SJR placed four Green Knights inside the top five on the leaderboard.
The victory marks the second consecutive sectional title for SJR and 3rd over the last six years.
The Green Knights now advance to the State Tournament of Champions Monday, May 11th at Raritan Valley Country Club.
